So many writers and creatives feel stuck when it comes to making money from their craft.
Maybe you’ve been writing for years, but haven’t figured out how to turn your passion into income.
Maybe you’ve got books on the shelf—or in your head—but no idea how to make them profitable.
If that’s you, I want to encourage you with this truth:
You don’t need a perfect plan. You just need to make four simple choices.
Let’s break them down.
Choice #1: What Are You Going to Offer?
This is where it all starts.
You have creative gifts—so what could you offer?
It might be a course, a coaching package, a devotional, a group experience, or something else entirely.
If you’re feeling stuck, look around.
What are other writers or creatives offering? What lights you up?
Pro tip: You don’t need to figure out the whole offer right away. Just brainstorm ideas. Think:
“How do I want to get paid for helping others through my writing or creative work?”
Choice #2: Who Is Your Offer For?
This is where specificity matters.
The more clear and focused you are about your audience, the faster you’ll gain traction.
When I tested a group spiritual direction offer, I made the audience super clear: writers and creatives.
I shared a simple Facebook post asking who was interested. I didn’t have pricing, dates, or a fancy sales page—just a clear idea and an audience.
Result? Ten people raised their hands. That was all the confirmation I needed.
Choice #3: How Will People Pay You?
Once you know there’s interest, you need a way for people to pay.
Don’t overthink this. When you’re just starting out, keep it simple:
- Venmo
- PayPal
- Google Docs with a payment link
- Or a checkout platform like ThriveCart (my personal go-to)
You don’t need a full website or funnel to start validating your idea and making income.
Choice #4: How Will You Deliver the Offer?
Now that people are ready to pay—how will they receive the experience?
Again, keep it simple. Here are some ideas:
- Zoom calls
- Email courses
- Pre-recorded videos
- Group coaching in a private community
The how will grow and evolve as you do. What matters most is getting started and learning as you go.
Final Encouragement: Take the Next Small Step 👣
You don’t need a 5-year business plan to start earning as a writer.
You just need to keep taking your next small step. Test your ideas. Talk to your audience. Make the offer. Stay curious and flexible.
And above all—don’t wait until it’s perfect. It never will be.
You’ve got this.
