Learn how to recognize the lies of shame, trust God’s nudges, and move forward—even when you’re uncertain or afraid.
Shame will not tell your story. Instead, it often holds Christian writers back.
It will try to keep you quiet, whispering that you’re unqualified, not ready, and way behind.
Shame doesn’t speak the language of faith; it speaks the language of fear. And when it gets loud, it can keep Christian writers from doing the very thing they were born to do: tell the truth with courage and conviction.
The Lies Shame Tells Writers
As a writer, podcaster, artist, or creator, shame often sounds like:
- “What if no one reads it?”
- “What if they think it’s cringe?”
- “What if I’m not good enough?”
- “What if I’m too late?”
The truth?
- You don’t know how many copies your book will sell.
- You don’t know how people will respond to your video or blog.
- You don’t know how long it will take or who will come alongside you.
And that’s okay.
God never asked you to be certain—He asked you to be faithful.
You Were Never Meant to Wear Someone Else’s Shoes
In John 21:22, Jesus responds to Peter’s comparison by saying, “What is that to you? You follow me.”
Comparison clouds clarity. It pulls your attention from your unique calling and causes you to question the assignment God gave you.
You weren’t created to copy someone else’s voice or pace. You were created, uniquely and purposefully, for your own story—for your own message—for this moment.
When You Feel Small, Remember What’s True
Here’s what I want you to hold onto:
- Stay deeply rooted in what God says about you.
- Trust the quiet nudges of the Holy Spirit.
- Focus on taking the next step; it’s okay not to have it all figured out (no one has it all figured out).

So pick up your pen, your paintbrush, your mic—whatever helps you unlock your voice. Even if your hands are shaky, your voice trembles and your next steps feel uncertain.
You’re still moving.
And I believe, with my whole heart: God will meet you.
Let Go of Shame. Pick Up Your Voice.
This is your invitation! Throw off the lies that so easily entangle—shame and the Christian writer were never meant to walk together.
It’s time to to stop waiting for perfect clarity, looking over your shoulder and asking, “But what about her?”
You and your words matter.
Not later—now.
You don’t have to perfectly polish your words to make an impact!
